Potrero Hill
Known for its hills, dramatic views of the cityscape or the Bay, and sunny weather, Potrero Hill offers residents something special in its unique pocket of the City. With quaint neighborhood restaurants and cafés, proximity to transit and highways, and a mix of vintage and modern single family homes, condo and TIC flats, and modern condo developments, Potrero Hill offers a unique San Francisco experience. Remodels from the 90s to today dot the architectural landscape, which also offers the occasional 60s apartment building among the many Edwardian and occasional Victorian homes. Bordered by Highways 101 and 280, 16th St and Cesar Chavez, Potrero’s proximity to Cal Train and highways make it a favorite for commuters.
For the basics, Potrero and nearby residents love Whole Foods in the northwest corner of the neighborhood, which also is a few blocks from the nearby Potrero Center shopping mall, home to Safeway and Petco. Potrero Hill also is home to Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center.
Locals love Thee Parkside, a dog-friendly bar and eatery with outdoor seating, and JB’s Place, a down-home place to get coffee, breakfast, or lunch, both on 17th. Sunflower Vietnamese fills up for lunch and dinner, offering favorites like garlic noodles, savory pho, and top-notch imperial rolls. And don’t miss the flaky, inventive tarts and other pastries at Neighbor Bakehouse, a popular bakery on 3rd and 20th in the neighboring Dogpatch neighborhood. Wash them down with the delicious coffee at Farley’s on 18th, which offers space to read and relax, too. Don’t miss Mochica, a Peruvian spot known equally for its delicious fare and its cocktails. Then catch a concert at Bottom of the Hill, Potrero’s own, favorite small venue known for its acoustics and friendly staff.
Sweeten the deal at Sunday Social, where uniquely flavored ice creams like Ube Doodle, Milk & Cookies, and Butterbeer delight kids of all ages. Readers will love Christopher’s Books on 18th, a neighborhood favorite since 1991. Gardeners love the Potrero Hill Community Garden on San Bruno Ave, which, despite its long waitlist for plots, doubles as a public area where residents can stroll through and admire the work of the 51 gardeners who tend to it.
