Emeryville
With quick access to the Bay Bridge, a free, city-operated shuttle to nearby MacArthur BART Station, a long stretch of publicly accessible bay front, a boat marina, great shopping (Ikea, West Elm, Urban Outfitters and more), a 16-screen movie theater, food halls and gleaming parks, tiny Emeryville is big on living well. With just over twelve thousand people, Emeryville is home to Pixar headquarters and several large biotech companies that draw thousands to the small town each day. Emeryville has a small neighborhood of classic bungalows and craftsmans, but the housing stock mainly consists of loft conversions and modern condos. Check out famous Trader Vic’s for bayside Mai Tais and Rudy’s You Can’t Fail Cafe for morning (or midnight) breakfasts that are the best around.
At the top of the mountain, the neighborhood is bordered by several giant East Bay Regional Parks, including Sibley, Redwood and Huckleberry, that provide access to hundreds of miles of walking and mountain biking trails. There are many hillside lots in Montclair that can provide views from Mount Tam all the way to the south bay. There are also lovely wooded canyons, creeks and varied terrain with a wide variety of housing, including large contemporary homes, mid-century marvels, mediterranean stunners, and quaint cottages. Check out Yellow Door for some delicious quick breakfast, Daughter Thai for a unique take on Southeast Asian cuisine and a Great, Good Place for Books for all your literary need.
